JAG event at Burke

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 9:16 pm

This Nevado event was a special mid week day that was especially designed to be a day for KIDS! We invited middle school kids from JAG (Jobs for American Graduates). The kids worked all year to get their grades up to be able to attend this event. They were able to rent skis and ski for the first time…they did great. They also went on a tour of the areas in the baselodge that showed all the jobs that people do at the ski area like food and Beverage, Rentals, Marketing, Ski School. All were eyeopeners for these kids. It was a great opportunity for us at Nevado to be able to get kids in the outdoors and give them a chance to be in a Team building environment. The day was gorgeous with lots of sun and plenty of snow. When we pulled out the 2Moto motorcross bike with snow machine tracks on the back and a ski on the front out of the back of the trailer many heads turned. We got the head of maintenance to take it for a ride at the end of the day and he was thrilled to feel the power and control.
Fridays are Telemark days with discounted lift tickets. It was great to see the free heelers out on the slope testing out the gear. native Sunglasses are back with us and I think that was one of our top demo items. Ortovox transceivers, Dew Motion IPod quivers abd I sticks were amoungst the other products that interested participants were asking about. We plan to stay another day when the weekend people come so stay tuned for more.

Another beautiful sunny warm day with no wind a skiers dream, well besides a big powder day! By 8 am the ski area was crawling with people and was hardly enough room to drive up on the slopes without crowd control. It was Maine day with $30 lift tickets, there was a race and a fantastic FREE demo at the base of the mountain. We set up next to the lodge with our mountain of gear and tents. We had a slackline area for those that need to work on balance and balance boards from INDO BOARDS right out front of the lodge for people to try their skills. Disk Golf with frisbee like disks and a big basket more commonly called the TEE. was another point of interest. Skichairs and snowboard benches were popular as well as. We have head to toe product for skiers and riders to try Nutcase and Bern Helmets, Native Goggles and sunglasses, Opdedix posture shirts and knee supporting tights, Loki Morphing jackets, Scarpa NTN boots with Superfeet, Yaktrax and Grangers wash in waterproofing, Swany gloves, Stomp Pads for boards and 22 Designs bindings for Telemark skis and even dog jackets from D-FA. Nevado has what we all need so come to our last events in the east and west this month before the snow all melts.

Burke, VT

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 9:13 pm

What a weekend at Burke! We kicked off our weekend of demos at Burke on with a special friday demo on the snow at Burke with special help from a team of students in a local JAG (Jobs for American Graduates) program. It’s a great opportunity for Nevado to help introduce young people to the snowsports industry, and we appreciate their help in getting our gear out on the hill.

Both Friday and Saturday were warm, sunny days at Burke with some of the best skiing we’ve seen all season long. Burke really is one of New England’s hidden gems – tucked away in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, it’s got a strong local following but plenty of open space to play.

With the sun shining and the temperatures creeping into the 50s, we had an opportunity to break out some great new gear that we’ve picked up over the past couple of months out west. Indo Board is one of our newest products, and it was a hot item all day long. We were all amazed at how well some of the kids visiting the demo were able to balance on an Indo Board in ski boots! Disc Golf is another new item of ours, and it became clear why this sport (that many people in the Northeast seem to be unfamiliar with) is on the verge of becoming the next big thing – it’s so much fun! On a day like Saturday, our Innova disc golf setup was a perfect game out on the snow.

Gunstock, NH

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 9:03 pm

After a solid month on the road spanning tradeshows and demo events across 4 states, Nevado is back at home in New England to kick off another fantastic string of events.
Saturday, the Nevado demo team was on the snow at Gunstock in Gilford, New Hampshire.

While the weather has been iffy over the past few weeks, we arrived to find more than 3+ inches of fresh light snow that continued to come down hard most of the day. Gunstock has been lucky enough to miss a lot of the rain that other resorts in southern New Hampshire & Vermont have seen lately - they have a solid base of the heavier snow that will keep the lifts turning right through March and into the spring.

With a trailer full of new gear from some great brands we met up with at the winter tradeshows in Denver and Salt Lake City, we stormed the base area and set up three separate demo centers - a Gibbon Slackline & Indoboard area high up on the mountains adjacent to the lifts & tubing park, an entire Camp Chef kitchen right near the lodge, and our main demo center of 6 tents and tons of gear right at the base area.

One popular item we had on Saturday was the Dew Motion Quiver sound system, a stretch fabric shoulder strap that keeps your ipod, earbuds, and an ingenious in-line remote all securely fastened in place while skiing or riding. It’s a great way to listen to music out on the hill without worrying about a bouncing MP3 player or how to change songs on a touchscreen (which usually requires removing your gloves.)

Next week, we will be crossing three states for two big events - a two day demo at Burke, VT on Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday demo event at Saddleback up in Rangeley, Maine. Be sure to check our schedule and come out to see us!

Ashland, OR

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 9:16 pm

The Nevado team got to the mountain the day before for some logistic as to the setup for the following days’ demo, plus we had to get some turns in to check the conditions. It as another blue bird day and very warm so sliding was slow. Ashland has night skiing so waiting for the snow to cool made for a great day and night. The morning was busy with people coming to the ski area for a busy Telemark demo day. Thanks to the Outdoor Shop in Ashland for supplying Telemark skis and boots for the demos. Many people tried the NTN binding and boot we had from Scarpa. Even though the weather was warm and sunny the icey sections early in the morning made for some slippery surfaces so the Yaktrax traction for your boots were pulled out and put on so we all had great footing for setting up the Nevado sponsor tents. We had a perfect location for the slacklines, Indo Boards and all the vikes. Even thought we could not take the bike up the lift we all played at the base with the bikes. We gave the Trikke wheel bike to one of the parking attendant to use and that was a great display. There were many dogs there and D-Fa dog jackets were shown and tried on by our 4 legged friends. Bearpaws and keens were tried on along with the Nutcase helmets and Native goggles. We did give Little Hotties warmers to the staff at Ashland along with donations for a Telemark Frensy race and to the ski patroller fundraiser. We made many friends that day. The Dew Motion Quiver is a Ipod and Iphone strap that goes over your jacket to adjust volume and music selection at ease,
I have to say that the staff at Mt. Ashland were very accommodating and a great family run mountain with fantastic customer service.

Mt. Bachelor, OR

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 9:16 pm

A beautiful blue bird day at Bachelor makes for a perfect Nevado demo day. the team met Travis at the base of the West Mountain side for a busy morning hauling the gear right next to the lift on the slopes of Bachelor. The staff was very helpful and fun to work with. We had 6 tents and made a mountain of gear for people on the hill to try. Thanks to Pine Mountain Sports for supplying Telemark skis and Nevado brought NTN boots from Scarpa and plenty of skis to try. The Ortovox avalance transivers were a big topic for the ski patrollers and a enthusiastic backcountry skiers we met. We buried the transivers and made people find them. The demos worked great and was fun to show people how easy it is to find people under the snow when needed. Opedix and Polarmax support long underwear were something participants found interested in learning about. We had Indo Boards, Slacklines, Trikkes and bikes even the 2 Moto bike made it up the hill. Crash Pads from Astoria Oregon had some people wanting to try so we gave them some padded shorts to hit the rails and get some feedback. “All good”, they replied. We are glad to have Native Eyewear back with us for a day of sunshine and shades. What a great Nevado western team, thanks to Jerry for cooking us some Camp Chef delights in the Smoke Vault.

Winterfest in Bend, OR

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:04 pm

After dealing with some rainy weather our demo team got things rolling and set up our city of tents for an amazing weekend of festivities and on snow demos at the Mill district in Bend Oregon. Winterfest is a 3 day festival including a ski and snowboard Rail Jam, concert, crafts, cross country races and demos along with the Medal Malisha.

“Bend WinterFest is a celebration of local art, culture and winter sports in our community and a fun, creative event for all to enjoy!”

What an incredible weekend it was, our demo booth was full of people trying on Nutcase helmets along with Crazee Heads helmet covers. People couldn’t stop talking about our Loki jackets with built in facemasks and mitts. The polarized Native sunglasses and goggles got some attention when the sun peeked out on Sunday. We even hooked some a couple of rail jam participants up with the GoPro camera to film their event. The 2 Moto converted Motorcross bike with the snow kit called RADX was a huge hit. The Trikke 3 wheeled and 3 ski bike along with the Kong Slider Bike from
The Slider Corporation were non stop once thw cross country race was over. the kids and adults were having a blast. We told them to demo them at HOODOO Resort, Special thanks to Frankie from Gibbons Slackline for joining us and Hoodoo ski resort for lending us cross country skis and snow shoes. Winterfest was a major success and we can’t wait to come back next year! See you on the slopes!

Cranmore

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 12:56 am

While it was a cold day across most of the valley today, the sun was shining down on Cranmore as it usually does, making for some great skiing and taking the edge off the low temps. After a few runs on Cranmore’s meticulously groomed soft corduroy, the Nevado demo team got things underway in a big way. Our massive demo setup was busy for the better part of the day, sending out telemark equipment like crazy. We have a full lineup of Scarpa boots - every model in every size - and 20+ tele ski models from manufacturers like Rossignol, Icelantic, Black Diamond, G3, and Karhu. What better way is there to get into telemark skiing?!
The big event of the day, however, was the arrival of our bike sporting the 2Moto Radix conversion kit - A ski and track system that turns an ordinary dirtbike into a snowbike that’s capable of high speeds on any kind of snow. It’s quite the sight, and it easily drew a crowd all day long.
Our next event will be the kickoff of our west coast 2010 tour at Willamette Pass, Oregon. Check out our schedule to see when we are near you!

12/28 - 12/29/09 - Gunstock & King Pine

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 1:12 am

The rain chased us away from King Pine on Sunday, but that didn’t put a damper on our lineup of holiday week events!
Monday at Gunstock started off quietly with moderate temperatures and not a breath of wind - perfect skiing conditions. As the day went on, the snow started up and didn’t shut off, and we were busy sending out some of our fatter alpine skis, and a lot of tele equipment to skiers who thought it was the perfect opportunity to give this growing sport a try. We were also busy sending out our new HD GoPro cameras and gloves from Swany - a couple of perfect complements to a great day on the mountain.
Tuesday at King Pine was quite the day too. For a smaller mountain, King Pine has a loyal group of regulars and is always one of our busier demos. We spent the day tuning skis & boards and outfitting some of our visitors with Stomp Grabs, new Scarpa boots, and Opedix baselayers.

12/19 & 12/20: Smugglers Notch & Wildcat

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:44 pm

What a weekend! We started off at Smugglers Notch on Saturday morning, where temperatures had dipped to near zero degrees. But within an hour of us setting up our tents, the sun came out and started warming things up pretty quickly. Without a breath of wind in the Smuggs village base area, we were comfortable and busy, with a number of visits from people attending the ski school and mountain employees. We sent a number of Rossignol skis up to the mountain, where the snow and conditions were great for this early in the season.

On Sunday, we made the trek back over to Wildcat mountain up Route 16 in Jackson, New Hampshire. We got there early - and it’s a good thing we did - even our beast of a truck couldn’t make it all the way across the deep snow at the base towing our loaded trailer, and we needed a little help from the snowmaking folks at Wildcat.
While the mountain was pretty quiet, it seemed like everyone on the hill was busily coming and going from the demo, trying out some of the awesome equipment we had in stock. We installed several Stomp Grabs over the course of the day for people to try, and were busy fitting people with Swany gloves & mittens to stay warm from the cold wind that started up at the end of the day. It was a mitten day for sure.
Our wide selection of boots from Bearpaw also had quite a bit of interest. Bearpaw isn’t a manufacturer that is familiar to many of our visitors, but they are gaining in popularity, and rightly so. From our experience, Bearpaw boots are incredibly warm and durable, and available in a ton of great looking styles. Come by and try some on!

Jay Peak Demo

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:01 am

In our usual fashion, the Nevado demo team kicked off the 2009/2010 demo tour with our first on snow event of the season at Jay Peak, Vermont. While the wind was blowing and cold temperatures had overspread the area for the weekend, that didn’t keep the crowds away. We were set up on the snow at the tram base alongside the team from New England Telemark sending out skis, goggles, gloves and gear of all kinds throughout the day.
One of the most popular things we brought along on Saturday was our Gibbon Slackline - a purpose designed piece of nylon webbing that can be strung between any two solid objects and walked across. We strung our slackline between our truck and massive trailer in the parking area at the entrance to the tram base, giving visitors to the mountain an opportunity to try their hand at slacklining. While it isn’t easy at first, we had some professionals on hand to show us how it’s done. It is a ton of fun and will be a regular occurrence at future Nevado demo events.
Another item that received quite a bit of attention was some of the dog outerwear from D-Fa we had on hand. Jay Peak is one resort that’s definitely animal friendly, and we were surprised at the number of dogs who came by throughout the course of the day. Getting one of these warm and simple jackets on all of the dogs who came by was incredibly easy, and they looked happy to be wearing them.

Next week we will be traveling across state lines once again - starting off at Smugglers’ Notch on Saturday, and heading back to Wildcat in Jackson, New Hampshire for a Sunday demo event. We hope to see you there!

Nevado Mountain Adventures was proud to show off many new products this year at the Boston Ski & Travel Show! It was so busy on Thursday night I thought that if the show is like this on Friday and Saturday there will be no room to walk. Even with warm temperatures in the east the skiers and riders are ready to rock on! This year our main sponsors included Little Hotties warmers and Grangers wash in waterproofing, along with the ever popular Yaktrax foot traction devices. One of our newest products include Polarmax Opedix knee supporting tights; Posture shirts caught the eyes of many people asking questions about knee related injuries. Nutcase helmets were a colorful addition along with the Bolle Photochromatic goggles. Loki jackets have built in gloves and facemasks that Nevado team members use for the last two years. Go Pro cameras get everyone’s attention when they see them on helmets and on our chest mounts. One of our newest and most unique products is D-Fa dog jackets and Karma Balm for outdoor skin relief. Our boot line up is Scarpa Telemark and the new NTN boots, along with Keen winter boots and Bearclaw sheepskin boots. Thanks to Ski Chair for jumping on board with Nevado Demos! Nevado donated several items, including a GoPro camera, the revolutionary Revolver Gear rotation device to benefit Boarding for Breast Cancer.

3/7 - 3/8: Burke, VT and Gunstock, NH

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:28 pm

This weekend was the kind of weekend we spend all winter waiting for! We started on Friday with a special demo event at Burke with the help of several students in the JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) program. The sun was out and so were the skiers, and many people took advantage of the opportunity to try out some skis.

Saturday we awoke to some clouds, but temperatures in the upper 40s as we headed up to the main base area at Burke. The sun finally managed to break through the clouds, and the snow softened up by late morning. Our lineup of telemark equipment always gets a lot of attention at Burke, and Saturday was no exception - minutes after opening our entire stock of skis was out on the hill, and our trailer was full of skiers getting fitted to try out some Scarpa telemark & AT boots. We had the fantastic opportunity to ski with many of our visitors to the demo, and give them some pointers on both telemark and alpine skiing. One of the best parts of connecting people with state of the art skis is seeing the look on the face of someone on a shapely pair of 168s who is used to some straight, skinny 200s.

On Sunday, we were out in force for our second Gunstock demo of the year. Despite the rain the night before, the warm temperatures kept the snow soft and the skiing great. We even saw a number of people out in short sleeves… a little early maybe, but we admired their spirit!
The busy spot of the day at Gunstock was the park, and our line of brand new Bitchboards snowboards were coming in and going right back out all day long. These light, flexible boards are perfectly suited to women, and many models really excel in the park.
A group of people who came by the demo in the late afternoon immediately fell in love with our lineup of Nutcase helmets - no boring colors here! From swirls to stars and sparkles, there’s a Nutcase for every personality, and they are comfortable to boot.

    2/28 - 3/1: Gunstock & Wildcat

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:16 pm

Our weekend started off with a trek down to Gunstock, a respectable sized resort in the heart of the New Hampshire lakes region. The folks at the Gunstock Inn accomodated our team on Friday night, and we awoke to see some spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee right in the resorts’ backyard. Not a bad way to start the day!
Up at the mountain, things were in full swing. Despite getting a couple of inches of rain the night before, the mountain was blanketed with a soft coating of corduroy, thanks to the tireless efforts of the grooming team. We were set up alongside the New England Telemark team, who were running an event for first time telemark skiers throughout the day. Our huge lineup of Rossignol backcountry skis and Scarpa telemark boots are the perfect complement to their hour long clinics.
GoPro cameras were the hot item of the day - one of the people who we sent out at the beginning of the day with a camera on his head brought back three strangers from the lift who were also eager to try the chest mounted GoPro out. You can view the demo gopro videos from Gunstock and other events at our GoPro video page.

Sunday, we packed up and headed north to Wildcat in Jackson, a place we like to think of as our unofficial “home” resort. Wildcat, being perched literally across the street from Mount Washington, never fails us in the snow department, and Sunday was no difference. As is common the day before a major storm is expected, Wildcat was rather quiet, many people on vacation probably planning to come the following day instead - but that just meant more time out on our equipment for everyone who did make it out! We were set up right at the heart of the action on the lodge deck, giving everyone walking into the resort a chance to see what we have to offer and what they may want to try that day.
One of the most popular items of the day turned out to be quite a suprise - our brand new snowboard line from Bitchboards! These fantastic womens’ specific snowboards have a look that gets attention, and we got nothing but positive feedback on the way they ride. Our trailer was full of skiers getting fitted and set up with snowboard boots just so they could try the Bitchboards out.
Several of our boards are now fitted with the FrozenGear swivler, a lightweight metal plate that allows riders to adjust their stance on the fly. Its a well built, burly plate that fits right under the binding and is built to last.

Nevado West: Bend, OR and Mt. Bachelor Demo

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:01 pm

What a week we’ve had! Our months of planning really paid off, as Nevado made its return to the west coast. The Bend Winterfest attracted over 25,000 people for a three day festival featuring Local Artists, winery tours, Concerts and fireworks. The highlight was the evening performances of the Rail Jam for freestyle skiers and riders. Nevado Mountain Adventures had the premiere spot to show off and talk about the variety of products we offered to the many thousands of interested attendees. Nevado offered the only Cross- Country and Snowshoe demos available for the public and even could outfit some of the sprint racers with new state of the art Madshus XC skis and boots.. Three sixty foot ramps were built with 100 truckloads of snow that was brought into the Old Mill District of Bend. It was awesome to see the snow fly for the first two days so needless to say the Pistil Hats, Swany gloves and Gerbings Heated gloves were of interest.

During the Outdoor Retailer and SIA shows in January some new companies saw the vision of marketing to the end user at these outdoor events. Nevado Demos were available all weekend and then we were at Mt. Bachelor for 2 days for the ON SNOW DEMO we are known for.

The new companies that joined the Nevado tour for the rest of our 13 events coast to coast are:

Koala Ski Carriers by Julie Hall Owner and Founder, Julie joined us for all of the events in Bend and Mt. Bachelor to get a first hand experience of working with the public, she was a huge help to us..Thanks!

Nutcase Helmets out of Portland Oregon by Michael and Merriam Morrow , met us at their wearhouse after arriving in Portland Airport to pick up the new models of Nutcase Helmets. Some of the best graphics on the helmets I have ever seen.

Pistil Hats are also from Portland Oregon even though they have worked with us for years we know that the folks at the festival were happy to have a hat to keep them warm for the cold snowy nights.

Swany Gloves are another old friend to Nevado with their new Tri –flex gloves to demo out. People were lovin’ that they could demo the gloves and feel the warmth firsthand!

Gerbings Gloves are another company that has been around for 30 years with innovative battery operated heated gloves. Each finger is surrounded by warmth and that is the best demo we have. “Just try one on ”, is all that needs to be said.

Erik Sports owned by Mike Messler for providing Whitewoods Explorer Skis, boots and bindings for the demos. Nevado staff referred the customers to the Gear Peddler in Town.

Mt. Bachelor staff including Alex Kaufman, Becky Kinney (wishing her a fast recovery), Peter, John (for making the on hill experience a breeze), the ski and sport school for letting us use their YURT for storage and the Mt. Bachelor Ski and Sports shop for being receptive to having us do our on snow demo Thanks Erik and Terry!

Pine Mountain Sports were a huge help to provide Scarpa Boots and Rossignol Telemark Skis for the Bachelor event and Rossi Bob was there to bring the Alpine, Telemark and Snowboard equipment to demo for the two on snow demo days.

Peter from Madshus came to Winterfest with touring and racing skis and Tom helped us out by providing Atlas Snowshoes and a tent. Big thanks to Brent from Native Eyewear for helping us tremendously with fixtures, tables, displays and mostly hats and shirts for giveaways to encourage good will. Thanks to Raw Revolution, Organic Live Food Bar…Heatmax Hand and Toe warmers…Yaktrax for being generous to the staff at Mt. Bachelor and providing 24 pair of Yaktrax Pro traction to keep the staff safe on icy terrain. Spot satellite transceivers for the back country travelers to send messages to their loved ones or to local rescuers. Lastly, Sole heat molded footbeds for coming on board and giving our participants the edge for better control while skiing or riding.

The Western Nevado Demo Team of 15 members from Eugene were there to haul the gear, set up the tents and tech out the skiers and riders on the hill. They all were fantastic to be there both demo days and certainly enjoyed the riding at Mt. Bachelor. The weather was beautiful and the smiles of the participants were tremendous. We all plan to be back next year for demo days in the west and looking at atleast ten on snow events as well as attending the Winterfest in Bend mid February.

    Saddleback Demo

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 11:24 pm

This weekend, the Nevado team made the trek up to enjoy Saddleback in Rangeley, Maine. While Saddleback was once a very well kept secret, it seems as though the secret is getting out - the mountain is huge, the skiing is just about as good as it gets, and the facilities can’t be beat.
We started off our morning with breakfast in the spacious new base lodge before setting up right out front. Our day started off strong and was busy throughout - while the final count isn’t in yet, we sent out demos with well over 100 skiers & riders, many of whom went out for several demos throughout the day.
We were excited to be a part of a large telemark event going on throughout the day - many of the people taking out our skis headed out with instructors for hourlong clinics on telemark and skin skiing (we have BCA skins, too!) These clinics happen throughout the season and are great ways to get an introduction to the sport. We had some help from our friends at Icelantic in providing demo skis, but still had a line of people waiting for our 60+ pairs to come back in.
As the weather cooled off over the course of the day, we had a lot of people stopping by asking about the banner they saw for Gerbing - our heated glove sponsor. We sent out several pairs, and people were impressed to say the least. The battery is unobtrusive (unlike some of the heated gloves and socks of yesteryear), you can’t feel the wires at all, and they get HOT!

Next week, the Nevado demo team is traveling out to Bend, Oregon for the Liberty bank Winterfest. It’s sure to be a great time, so come and see us if you are in the area!

    Sun & Skiing at Attitash

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:10 pm

Saturday was a fantastic day at Attitash. We arrived at the mountain and guided our massive trailer onto the snow around 7:15 with the help of our friends at New England Telemark, who were running a demo right next door. It was a very cold start to the day, with temperatures hovering in the single digits. We set up the demo center and headed inside to warm up before getting some early turns in before opening up.
It’s good to see how well Attitash has fared with the ups and downs of the weather over the last few weeks - from the looks of things, You’d have no idea that many resorts saw rain and unseasonably warm temperatures just a few weeks ago. Here in the Mount Washington Valley, we can happily report that there’s been above average snowfall this year so far, and Attitash for one is fully open with awesome coverage. No ice to speak of here.
In the first couple hours of the day, the sun began peeking out and eventually warmed things up quite considerably. The mountain had a healthy presence of skiers and riders, many of whom decided to come by the demo later in the day as it got warmer and the snow softer. We were hard at work sending out alpine and telemark skis left and right, and had quite a few guests taking advantage of our full lineup of Scarpa boots to see what they preferred.
It’s a question we hear week after week - people who want to try telemark, but assume that they’ll need boots in order to use our skis. We get quite a bit of satisfaction out of bringing them around the corner to our trailer, which is packed wall to wall with every popular model of Scarpa tele and AT boots in just about every size. It isn’t very often that you have the opportunity to try so many boots in different models and sizes, but doing so is a vitally important step in making sure you’ve chosen the right boot in the right size. Luckily we’re here, and we are well equipped to help you do so!

12/20/08 - Powder Day at Wildcat

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 10:05 pm

This was the weekend that will set the tone for the winter - the first huge storm that spanned friday night straight through Sunday, giving resorts from New York to Maine more than a foot of fresh, dry snow. We were lucky enough to be set up by 8:30 right on the lodge deck at Wildcat, and got some fresh tracks in at the start of the day which didn’t dissapoint. While temperatures in the valley and up at Pinkham Notch were dipping into the single digits throughout the day, the wind held off - and the cold air kept the snow machine pumping out the kind of dry, fluffy snow we all dream about.
Being the week before christmas, we weren’t suprised that it was relatively quiet for such a great day - but we didn’t hear many complaints from the many skiers & riders who came by to try out some gear. We had our usual lineup of 08/09 Rossignol Alpine, AT & Telemark skis, a huge selection of new SCARPA AT & Telemark boots, and with the help of our friends at Joe Jones, were able to offer some awesome Volkl, Salomon & Nordica alpine skis, fresh off the truck.
On a day like this, it’s understandable that many of our demo visitors wanted to get as much time on the hill in as possible - we were able to set them up quickly, stock their pockets with the Raw Revolution bars of their choice, and send them out on brand new skis with a comfortable, warm, and camera-outfitted bern helmet to document their turns.
Check out our schedule - a few changes and new dates are forthcoming, make sure to keep up to date on when We’ll be near you!

    12/13 - Cranmore Mountain

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 11:22 pm

Nevado Mountain Adventures had a fantastic day at Cranmore Mountain on Saturday. The mountain staff did a great job of making us feel at home, and we had a bunch of opportunities to hit the slopes ourselves.
Cranmore Mountain is located in the middle of New England’s favorite ski town, North Conway, NH. It is one of America’s oldest ski resorts and features an extensive snowmaking system covering 100% of the mountain with the exception of the snow glades. It’s extremely popular with vacationing families, and is also well known for its terrain parks - check it out at cranmore.com.

Nevado was pleased to work together with EMS as we are trying to bring the retail stores right to the mountains. Michael, the manager from EMS, shouted “What a fantastic idea” and showed up with two of his employees to tech skis and boots. They were very excited to meet with customers right on the mountain and check in with some people who had never been in the store before. The participants were either working on new Telemark techniques or asking about the new NTN system that is now available both at the Nevado demos and at EMS. We had two people try the Spirit 4 AT boots and one other customer tried on the Tornado. Both customers remarked on how much lighter these boots are and that they were a perfect fit, thanks to the experience from the demo staff.

Go Pro cameras were a big hit at the demo and the helmet Cam went out hourly. Even the marketing manager went out for a test run with the wide angle sports camera and is now interested in using it as a tool for the morning slope report in order for people to see a live video on the Cranmore Mountain website. They are very excited that Nevado came and has invited us back for another day. Check the nevado.com website regularly for new updates on the demos, gear and retailers that are involved.

2008 Kick off at Jay Peak

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 1:39 am

And We’re back! Nevado kicked off its 25th season of operation this past weekend with our first demo of the season on the slopes of Jay Peak, Vermont. 2007/2008 was a great snow year marked by record traffic to Nevado demo events and at ski resorts across the northeast, and we’re working hard to make sure that 2008/2009 is that much better.

As always, We’ll be bringing tons of gear to some of the most popular resorts across the northeast - check our schedule to see where you can find us. But this year, We’re ready to take a big leap - we’ll be hosting our first event in Oregon in years as Nevado West opens shop in Bend, OR at the Liberty Bank Winterfest and on the slopes of Mount Bachelor. It’s sure to be a big year for skiing & riding, and a big year for Nevado.

Our weekend at Jay Peak was an excellent start to the season. We arrived to find plenty of snow, sunshine, and skiers out to take advantage of Jay’s 36 open trails and excellent coverage. We set up right at the enterance, adjacent to the tram with our friends from New England Telemark, and were showing great gear all day long.

A few items we’re featuring this year are the GoPro Wide Angle Helmet Camera - it captures high quality, 5 megapixel photos and video across a 170 degree wide field of view, giving you more consistent, realistic-feeling video from your day on the hill.

Another item you’ll find at Nevado is the Loki Meta Snowsports Jacket - an awesome insulated shell with some unexpected features. While the sleeves and hood look like any other from the outside, they really are special - in less than a second, that sleeve extends to become a soft, fully covered mitten, and the hood has a great face shield built right in. There’s three less things to forget when you are headed out for the day!

This upcoming weekend, come see us at Cranmore, right in the heart of ski country in North Conway. We have a full schedule of demo events from now until the end of the season, so take a look and be sure not to miss us when we come to your area!

    Stowe

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 11:43 pm

We were lucky enough to make it up to Stowe for our final demo of the season, and the conditions didn’t disappoint. Despite the fact that we are making our way through April, it still looks very much like winter on mount Mansfield, and it seems that there will be great skiing and riding for weeks to come. We set up right below the gondola, adjacent to the Midway base lodge. While we encountered a few brief sprinkles in the morning, conditions improved throughout the day. Conditions were hard, and visibility was a little tough for the first few runs - an excellent opportunity to try out some Native eyewear, which gives you great contrast in the kind of flat light conditions you often encounter on an overcast or foggy day. Many of the Native models we carry have interchangeable lenses included with them, giving one pair of sunglasses the ability to adapt to a wide range of conditions and circumstances. Also popular on Saturday morning was our Coleman camp coffeemaker, which is set over a camp stove burner to quickly brew fresh Silver Joe’s coffee (and hot cocoa, for that matter.)
As the day wore on, the fog lifted and the sun tried its best to peek out and warm things up. Saturday was a testament to the versatility of many of the all mountain skis we carry like the B78 - it excelled in the morning when skiers were encountering harder snow and typical east coast conditions, but was able to keep up as things softened up and the trails became bumped up toward the end of the day.

    Wildcat

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 11:41 pm

This past weekend at Wildcat sure was a great one! For the first time this season, the snow was hard enough for us to drive down next to the lift as opposed to setting up on the lodge deck. The staff helped us out early on Saturday morning by plowing away a couple of inches of snow to be sure that our massive trailer would make it underneath the lift, and it was close! Nevertheless, by 10am we were busily signing people up to try out equipment that suited the hard and fast conditions that characterized the day at Wildcat.
Sunday was almost a total 180 in comparison to Saturday - rather than chilly temperatures and the occasional gust of wind, we saw temperatures in the high 50s and a warm sun all day long… it sure was a great day, provided you had a pair of Natives or Bolle goggles on! There’s still an amazing amount of snow left up at Wildcat for this time of year - combine that with warmer temperatures, and it becomes a perfect day to try out a midfat ski that will hold you up above all the slush and mashed potatoes that we were skiing on. The B78 respect with a Naxo binding proved to be a great choice for the day - it’s wide, but light - and the added versatility of the Naxo Alpine Touring binding was especially appealing to many of the backcountry enthusiasts who spend their in-bounds time at Wildcat.

    Cannon, Ascutney

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 3:35 pm

It’s these later days in the season when the warmth and the sun prevail that you go on to remember fondly during the off season. This weekend, we hit two resorts - Cannon on saturday, and Ascutney on sunday. Saturday started off a little chilly, but the sun soon won out, and we were skiing under sunny skies on some great snow.
Ascutney took great care of us with slope side lodging, use of the hot tubs and pool, and fed us breakfast and lunch in exchange for Yaktrax and Native Tee shirts.
Well let me tell you it went fantastic! Sunny, no wind, great snow cover… Not many people were skiing on Sunday, but it seems like everyone on the mountain did a demo or two during the course of the day. It is one of those mountains where we feel like we have a great impact, since most of the people that demoed had really straight skis and their 80’s clothes matched their skis, poles, hat and gloves. It was a big Tele day with many young kids, ski patrol and ski school employees being most interested. It was a big day for Native and Bolle as well. We got a few snowboarders to try the Hangtimers, which were both easy to use and amazingly accurate. We sent out a number of Go Pro customers on Saturday and Sunday, with one guy interested in a purchase at Ascutney, and a few inquiries at Cannon.
The Rossignol Z5 was the alpine ski of the day and with the fresh tune from Ski Liquidators in North Conway, made for a great response from everyone since the conditions were firm. The snow did not start to soften up until late in the Afternoon when the team went out for a few runs.

    Cannon

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 9:04 pm

The snow was deep and the smiles were big this weekend at Cannon! We arrived on Saturday morning with the snow coming down hard and several inches already on the ground. We set up right at the base of the quad next to the lodge, and had a line at 10:00 when we opened for the day. Our fat skis were all out in a matter of minutes, and were turning over like crazy throughout the day. We sent out a number of GoPro camera demos on Saturday, and were busy showing them off in our heated trailer to the people who shot them and the scores of people coming in and out to try on boots from Scarpa.
Sunday didn’t disappoint either - we awoke to find that it was still snowing and the temperatures were relatively moderate. We made use of our lineup of brand new Bern helmets on Sunday, which are both exceptionally stylish and comfortable. Many of the helmets have a liner that drops down below the base of the shell, giving it a great look and unparalleled warmth.

    Bromley

Filed under: Demo Updates — admin @ 11:57 pm

Bromley was a blast! We arrived sunday morning to find the sun shining down on the snow covered slopes of southern Vermont. We set up at the main base lodge, adjacent to the quad, alongside Eastern Mountain Sports, who were also conducting telemark demos throughout the day. This, in addition to the telemark race and telemark clinics going on throughout the day, made for a busy time in which we sent out dozens of telemark demos alone. There isn’t much we enjoy more than seeing the faces of new and long time telemark enthusiasts light up when we tell them that we not only have a full line of Rossignol telemark skis, but are fully equipped with brand new SCARPA boots as well. We certainly made use of our full stock on sunday.
With it being so sunny out, we thought that it was the perfect opportunity to set up some of our Brunton solar products - we never have a hard time finding people who need iPods charged to get them to work out in the cold!
